Grandparents 2.0: New Baby, New Rules, Same Love — What Today’s Grandparents Need to Know

Jump to:

One minute you’re raising your own babies.

And somehow — somehow — that baby grows up and tells you they’re having a baby.

Wasn’t I just packing your lunch? Teaching you to drive? Reminding you to make a dentist appointment?

And now you’re somebody’s parent?!

It is wild. It is emotional. It makes you feel approximately 147 years old.

And honestly?

What a blessing.

We got to watch our children grow up. And now we get a front-row seat while they become parents themselves.

That’s pretty incredible.

I’m Amey Fields. I’m a Registered Nurse, a board-certified lactation consultant, and the owner of AZ Breastfed Babies and Bump to Baby AZ.

I’ve spent nearly three decades working with moms and babies. I raised three babies of my own.

And now?

I’m a grandma too. ❤️

So believe me when I say: I get ALL the feelings that come with this new role.

But Wait…When Did All the Rules Change?

No blankets in the crib?

No cereal in the bottle?

What do you mean I can’t kiss the baby’s face?

And WHAT happened to the car seat?!

When we were raising babies, we had our pediatrician, our parents, our friends and maybe a couple of parenting books.

What to Expect When You’re Expecting was basically Google. 😂

Now?

Google. Instagram. TikTok. Facebook groups. Podcasts. Parenting experts. Sleep experts. Feeding experts. Influencers.

Everyone has an opinion — and somehow they’re all VERY confident about it.

Honestly, I understand why grandparents sometimes think, “This is too much.”

Because sometimes it IS too much.

That’s one of the reasons I created Grandparents 2.0: New Baby. New Rules. Same Love.

Let’s Talk About What the Evidence Actually Says

We’re going to cut through the noise and talk about current, evidence-based recommendations for babies today.

Safe sleep. Feeding. Car seats. Starting solids. Development. Screen time. Health and safety.

Most importantly, we’ll talk about what has changed and why.

And this isn’t coming from someone wagging her finger at Grandma and Grandpa.

I AM Grandma. 😂

I raised my babies with the information we had then.

Now I’m grandparenting with the information we have today.

There will absolutely be moments when we say:

“WAIT. We used to do WHAT?!”

That doesn’t mean we were bad parents. We did the best we could with the information we had.

And that’s exactly what our kids are doing now.

Because This Is About More Than Baby Safety

We’re also going to talk about our new role.

How do we support our adult children without taking over?

How do we offer our experience while remembering they’re the parents now?

How do we navigate boundaries or parenting decisions that are different from ours?

And how do we build the kind of relationship where our kids genuinely want us in their village?

Because we’re playing the long game.

We want the newborn snuggles, absolutely.

But we also want the birthdays, holidays, maybe sleepovers, traditions, school plays and relationships that come years from now.

New information. New role. Same incredible love.

Come join me for Grandparents 2.0: New Baby. New Rules. Same Love.

We’ll learn what’s changed, laugh about what we used to do, ask all the questions and figure out this grandparenting thing together.

Because becoming a grandparent?

What an incredible next chapter. ❤️
